Sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 halted in the US
Following patent disputes, the US-based company Apple is halting sales of its newly introduced smartwatches in the country.
Apple recently introduced its new generation of watches. Masimo, which has been involved in ongoing patent lawsuits and disputes with Apple for some time, is now causing the sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 models to be halted in the country.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple has decided to stop sales of the two models in the US this week.
As reported, Apple will close sales of the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 models on its website on December 21. On December 24, it will also remove them from sale at Apple Stores specifically in the US. But why?
THE SENSOR THAT MEASURES BLOOD OXYGEN LEVELS HAS CAUSED TROUBLE FOR APPLE

Medical device company Masimo has been claiming for some time that Apple has committed patent infringement. Masimo, which initiated legal proceedings on the matter, has been pursuing this since 2020. According to the company, Apple has been infringing on certain patents since the Watch Series 6.
About 2 months ago, the US International Trade Commission intervened and imposed a ban on Apple Watch models.
One of the disputes between Masimo and Apple is that the sensor in the Apple Watch that measures blood oxygen levels is actually under a Masimo patent. It was reported that some patents like this, held by Masimo, were used by Apple without authorization, and therefore the devices in question should be removed from use.
The US International Trade Commission conducted an investigation and determined that Apple had infringed on 2 alleged patents. These infringements, centered on the feature that measures blood oxygen levels, have caused Apple Watches to be removed from sale for a period of time.
If the administration approves, the ban will take effect on December 25. However, Apple appears to have started the process early ahead of the decision. On the other hand, if no move comes from the US administration, Apple will appeal the decision. In fact, Apple anticipates that sales of the two new-generation smartwatch models will officially resume 'as soon as possible.'
In the meantime, it is worth noting that the Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 models are only being removed from the official Apple website. This means these two watches can still be purchased from other online retail platforms.
