The more you watch Netflix, the fewer ads you will see

Although Netflix's ad-supported plan has not yet been launched in our country, it has been in effect in many countries for a year. And now, the streaming giant has developed a new method to reward users who watch a lot of Netflix.

According to details reported in Chip, Netflix announced in a blog post that it will be rolling out new features for its streaming service, including a new system where subscribers to the ad-supported plan will be able to skip some ads if they binge-watch a series. According to Amy Reinhard, Netflix's president of advertising, users who watch at least three consecutive episodes of a series will be offered the fourth episode ad-free.

NETFLIX HAS OVER 200 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS

The company also announced that it is expanding its sponsorship program, which allows advertisers to integrate their products or brands into films or shows on the streaming service. Netflix stated that we will see sponsors very frequently in the upcoming game show Squid Game: The Challenge and the final season of The Crown, but did not go into detail about which brands will be involved or how this integration will work.

Reinhard also revealed that the company's ad-supported plan has now surpassed 15 million global monthly active users. Netflix is currently estimated to have over 200 million subscribers, so ad-supported customers still represent a small fraction of its user base.

It seems that, despite all efforts, we are slowly returning to a world dominated by advertisements, just like in the days when we were condemned to cable television. Still, we will always have the option to subscribe to an ad-free subscription plan for a streaming service. However, doing so will be so expensive that it will not be a truly viable decision.
