Warning issued against AI-powered photo applications
The Philippine Department of National Defense has warned its military and civilian personnel against using AI-powered photo applications due to security concerns.
According to a report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), a circular signed by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. stated, "AI-powered photo generation applications require the upload of at least 10 photos for this process. This poses a serious security risk."
The circular noted that these applications capture user information to create "digital personas capable of mimicking speech and movements."
WARNING TO AVOID USING AI-POWERED AND FREE APPLICATIONS
It was pointed out that AI-powered applications, which appear fun and harmless, can be used to create fake profiles for various purposes such as social engineering, identity theft, and fraud.
The circular warned, "All Department of National Defense and Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel are urged to refrain from using AI photo generator applications and sharing information on virtual platforms. Ensure that your actions align with the Department's values and comply with existing regulations."
