YouTube deals a major blow to spam channels

Over the last six months, a vast spam network using AI infrastructure and acting in a coordinated manner to upload low-quality videos to the platform has been effectively detected by YouTube's new defense systems. As a result of comprehensive analysis, approximately 130 thousand channels were removed from the platform.

This new filtering system, created to counter the spread of AI-based content production, works by evaluating numerous details such as similar templates, texts, and broadcast times used by channels. Rather than relying solely on traditional content moderation, this system identifies commonalities among spam channels and can analyze similar network structures in a short time.

The platform's new defense approach identified groups of over 50 thousand interconnected spam channels. In these groups, hundreds of channels were repeatedly sharing the same content with minor modifications, thanks to automated video production tools. Such manipulative channels posed a significant threat to genuine creators by manipulating recommendation algorithms.

Company officials announced that the rate of channels accidentally blocked during algorithmic filtering remained below the one percent threshold. Experts emphasize that this cleanup will make it easier for creators who produce original and creative content to stand out.

This operation is interpreted as a message of determined struggle not only against accounts that violate copyright or produce copied videos, but also against platforms that mass-produce spam content using artificial intelligence. It is anticipated that similar operations will continue to ensure that originality and quality content come to the forefront in the digital ecosystem.
