2 candidates for the new MHK president: When will the appointment be made?

Following Ferhat Gündoğdu's departure from the Central Referee Committee (MHK), the question of who will be the new president is on the agenda of the football community. After Gündoğdu, who was arrested as part of the "Referees file" investigation, announced that he had submitted his resignation to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), all eyes turned to the federation's management.

TWO NAMES EMERGE FOR MHK PRESIDENCY

While referee appointments for this week's Süper Lig matches are awaited, it has been claimed that the name of former FIFA assistant referee and academic Sürhat Müniroğlu has emerged for the MHK presidency. In addition to Müniroğlu, it is stated that former referee Mustafa Kamil Abitoğlu is also among the names mentioned for the presidency.

SÜRHAT MÜNİROĞLU'S REFEREEING BACKGROUND

Müniroğlu served as a referee for 20 years between 1983 and 2003. Serving as a FIFA assistant referee for eight of those years, Müniroğlu held positions as an alternate member of the MHK and as a national instructor within the TFF. He was among the full members of the MHK during the 2007-2008 and 2022-2023 seasons.

SERVED AS TFF REFEREE AFFAIRS MANAGER

Having worked as the TFF Referee Affairs Manager between 2009 and 2011, Müniroğlu also served as the President of the Ankara Provincial Referee Committee during the 2017-2019 period.

NEW PRESIDENT TO BE APPOINTED BY TFF

The new MHK president is expected to be appointed by the TFF management rather than through an election. According to the federation's statement, MHK Vice President Hikmet Öksüzoğlu and the current committee members will serve temporarily until the appointment process for the new committee is completed. A definitive date for when the new president and members will be appointed has not yet been announced.
