AKP's Ali Şahin announces: Former Fenerbahçe player Roberto Carlos has converted to Islam
AKP Gaziantep MP Ali Şahin announced during his contacts in Brazil that Roberto Carlos recited the Shahada a month ago.
Ali Şahin, Chairman of the Turkish Group of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) and AKP Gaziantep MP, made a notable statement regarding former Fenerbahçe footballer Roberto Carlos during his contacts in Brazil.
Stating that he met with representatives of Islamic communities in Brazil, Şahin announced that Sheikh Jihad Hammadeh, a religious scholar living in São Paulo, reported that Roberto Carlos visited him about four weeks ago and chose Islam by reciting the Shahada.
Publishing a congratulatory message for the former Brazilian footballer, who also wore the Fenerbahçe jersey for a period, Şahin said, "I congratulate Roberto Carlos on his conversion to Islam and wish him and his family a life full of peace, health, and blessings."
According to Şahin's statement, the meeting in São Paulo was also attended by representatives from the Brazilian Islamic Charitable Youth Union, the Brazilian Union of Islamic Jurists, and members of the local Islamic community.
Roberto Carlos, considered one of the most important names in world football, is also remembered for his time playing for Fenerbahçe in Turkey.
