Sebahattin Şirin, leader of the Galatasaray fan group ultrAslan, has published an open letter addressed to Justice Minister Akın Gürlek. In his letter, Şirin stated that he supports Gürlek's efforts to re-examine unsolved murders and incidents.
Şirin expressed that he finds the reopening of the Uğur Mumcu murder case file to be "very valuable" and stated that he would support this process as a citizen.
In the remainder of the letter, Şirin brought up a claim regarding football, arguing that they have heard rumors that a group within the state intends to make Fenerbahçe the champions this season. Şirin alleged that Gürlek's name was also mentioned in these claims, but expressed that they do not want to believe this.
The letter from Şirin is as follows:
“Dear Akın Gürlek, I wrote a short piece recently regarding your decision to re-examine the Uğur Mumcu murder case and expressed my views. Your decision to re-examine the unsolved murders and incidents that have deeply shaken our country and can be considered milestones is very valuable. As a citizen, I will support this struggle with my life, my blood, and everything I have.
However, rumors have recently reached our ears that a group within our state intends to make Fenerbahçe the champions this season, and your name is also being mentioned within this group. We do not believe this is possible, and we do not want to believe it.
We believe that you will not allow your name to be used in such petty matters during this great struggle you have embarked upon to re-examine the unsolved murders and incidents that began with Uğur Mumcu.”
