The yellow-navy club has invited young fan Göktuğ Alımcı and his family, who faced backlash in the stands during the Gençlerbirliği match, to the Lyon game.
Fenerbahçe Club has reached out to young fan Göktuğ Alımcı and his family, who faced backlash in the stands due to the yellow-navy jersey he was wearing during the Gençlerbirliği match played in the first week of the Trendyol Süper Lig.
In a statement from the club, it was noted that Göktuğ Alımcı and his father, Selami Alımcı, were contacted by members of the Fenerbahçe Board of Directors. The yellow-navy club announced that Göktuğ and his family will be hosted at the Olympique Lyon match to be played on Tuesday.
The statement included the following: “We will host Göktuğ and his family at the Olympique Lyon match we will play on Tuesday; we will welcome our young fan with the warmth of the Fenerbahçe Family.”
Fenerbahçe also thanked the police officers who stood by Göktuğ and his family during the incident. The club emphasized that it is unacceptable for a child to face backlash simply for wearing the jersey of the team they support.
In its statement, the yellow-navy side noted that football rivalry should remain on the pitch and called for the protection of a sports culture where children can experience the excitement of football without fear, wearing the colors of the teams they love.
