Scottish side Celtic secured a significant advantage ahead of the second leg by defeating Austrian club LASK 3-0 at home. Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt also produced one of the night's notable results by beating NEC Nijmegen 3-1 away from home.
The match between Slovan Bratislava and Celje ended in a 1-1 draw, while Hapoel Beer-Sheva defeated Azerbaijani side Sabah 2-1 at home.
