The Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team reached the gold medal by defeating Italy 3-2 in the final of the Trendyol 2026 CEV European Championship. Speaking after the match at the Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, head coach Daniele Santarelli stated that they had reached the goals they set for the summer period.
Emphasizing that they put up a great fight against one of the world's strongest teams in the final, Santarelli said, "We finished the summer the way we wanted. We achieved incredible things. Our federation and the team really did miraculous things."
Explaining that they struggled especially in the third set of the match, the Italian head coach said they made simple mistakes in service reception and attack. Santarelli stated that he started the fourth set with Saliha Şahin and that they brought balance back to the game with the contribution he received from the substitute players.
Touching on the pressure created by playing the final against his own country, Italy, Santarelli expressed that he works for Turkey and spends all his energy for the success of this team.
I am an Italian. You all know this, but I work for Turkey. I give all my energy to Turkey. I love this country very much. I love the people of this country very much.
Stating that they put everything on the line to be successful in Turkey together with his team, Santarelli thanked the federation. The Italian coach concluded his statement by saying, "I am very happy to work in this country."
