Beşiktaş Second President Hakan Daltaban issued a written statement following his referral to the Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK) by the Turkish Football Federation. Daltaban stated that he would pursue legal avenues regarding the process and wished to inform the public.
Daltaban argued that he opened an official betting account in his own name approximately five years ago, and that this account was used for the purpose of allowing young people in his close circle who are interested in football to "have fun in a controlled environment." Stating that very few transactions were made in the account, Daltaban noted that the coupon amounts remained at small figures and that no money was ever withdrawn from the account.
In his statement, Daltaban noted that the total amount of the transactions mentioned in the referral documents did not reach 2,500 TL, saying, "Not a single Beşiktaş match was included in these coupons."
Daltaban said that the account was closed a long time ago, as soon as he learned that it did not comply with the necessary regulations for club officials. He claimed that the records and verifiable information regarding the matter support his account.
In his statement, the Beşiktaş executive emphasized that the betting account was not used for "profit" or as a "habit," and expressed that he is against illegal betting and gambling.
