TFF imposes penalty on Amedspor over 'braided hair' post
The Turkish Football Federation has imposed a total fine of 802,500 TL on Amedspor due to a post themed around 'braided hair' shared on its official social media account. At the same time, club president Nahit Eren received a 15-day ban from football-related activities for sharing the post on his own account.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK) has announced its latest decision, imposing a heavy fine and a ban on Amedspor. The club had been referred to the disciplinary committee on the grounds that the 'braided hair' posts it shared on social media on January 22 damaged the reputation of football and institutions and contained ideological propaganda.
PENALTY FOR AMEDSPOR
In line with the decision, Amedspor was fined 802,500 TL under the relevant articles of the Football Disciplinary Instructions. Club president Nahit Eren, who shared the same post on his own social media account, received a 15-day ban from football-related activities.
The TFF statement included the following: "It has been decided to impose an 802,500 TL FINE on AMED SPORTİF FAALİYETLER Club in accordance with Articles 38/1-b, 42/4, 42/2, and 10/2 of the FDT due to statements aimed at damaging the reputation of football and institutions and ideological propaganda contained in the post made on the club's official social media account (Instagram) on 22.01.2026; and to impose a 15-DAY BAN FROM FOOTBALL-RELATED ACTIVITIES on AMED SPORTİF FAALİYETLER Club President NAHİT EREN in accordance with Articles 38/3 and 38/1-a of the FDT due to statements aimed at damaging the reputation of football and institutions contained in the post made on the club's official social media account (Instagram) on 22.01.2026."
The post was based on a trend that spread on social media following a tragic event in Syria. Images of the Damascus administration displaying the braided hair of a woman, who was alleged to be a member of the SDF, after killing her had drawn significant backlash. Following these images, social media users started a 'braided hair' trend; Amedspor participated in this wave of protest on social media, which also included many artists and some DEM Party deputies.
