Following positive negotiations with Iran, the US has eased travel restrictions on the Iranian national team participating in the World Cup. Previously allowed to enter the country only one day before their matches in the US, the Iranian team will now be able to arrive in the US two days before their next match under the new regulation.
The US Department of Homeland Security stated, "The team has been granted permission to enter the US two days before their third match, which will be played in Seattle on June 26."
The department noted that the requirement for the Iranian team to leave the country on the day of the match remains in effect, adding, "General security measures and protocols have not changed. We are committed to ensuring the safest possible tournament for players, officials, and fans."
Due to not being permitted to stay in the US, the Iranian team had decided to stay in Tijuana, Mexico, throughout the tournament, traveling to the US only one day before matches and leaving the US immediately after the games.
