When we visit Azerbaijan, which some call the "Brother" country and others the "Land of Fire," where should we travel?

Palace of the Shirvanshahs / Baku

Regarded as the most magnificent palace in the Near East, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. One of the notable points within the walls of the palace, which has 52 rooms, is the underground water reservoir that could once independently meet the palace's water needs, reached by descending 34 steps.

This two-story palace was used as a residence for the Shah and his family on the upper floor, while the lower floor was used for guests arriving for state affairs. The palace also houses the Murad Gate, known as the 'great gate' of the palace, which dates back to the Ottoman period.

Bibi-Heybat Mosque / Baku

The historical mosque located in the capital stands out as one of the remarkable structures of Islamic architecture. The mosque, which also houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, holds spiritual value for the Muslims of the region.

Yanar Dag / Baku

Due to the gas reserves beneath it, Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain) is constantly on fire and never goes out, making it one of the most striking destinations in the country. The flames of the natural gas located just below the thin and porous sandstone layer shoot up to 3 meters into the air.

Unlike mud volcanoes, the flame of Yanar Dag continues to burn steadily because it receives a constant gas leak from the surface. How the fire started remains a mystery; one of the strongest claims is that a shepherd accidentally ignited it in the 1950s.

Ateshgah / Baku

Ateshgah, meaning Fire Temple, is located on the Absheron Peninsula. As one of the three Zoroastrian temples in the world, this place experiences a high density of visitors on Nowruz. It is also suggested that Azerbaijan gets its name from these fires, as Azerbaijan carries the meaning of 'land of fires'.

National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan / Baku

Continuing to develop in the field of art, the National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan, located in the city center, is the largest art museum in the country. The museum, which consists of two neoclassical buildings called the 'De Bur Palace' and the 'Mariinski Girls' Gymnasium', has a very large collection volume.

In addition to Azerbaijani art, over 15,000 works of art from different periods of Russian, Eastern, and Western European art await visitors in the museum, which features a very wide range.

Palace of Shaki Khans / Shaki

The Palace of Shaki Khans, which impresses those who see it at first glance with its legendary exterior, is among the world's monuments. This structure, which is part of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve, was built in 1762. It was built during the reign of Hussein Khan, the grandson of Haji Chelebi Khan, who fought for the first independent khanate in the country and laid its foundations. The two most remarkable aspects of this two-story structure, which is surrounded by castle walls, are that no nails were used during the construction of the palace and the unique carvings on its walls.

Gabala

Famous for its pistachio and chestnut forests and known as the locomotive city of the country's agriculture, Gabala enchants its guests with its pure nature. Vendam Town, which means a roof built from walnut wood, is one of the places most visited by tourists in the city. The Seven Beauties Waterfall is another notable point in the city.
