AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held an interview with journalists on the plane upon his return from visits to Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. Erdoğan said, "Let's see Trump take over the office from Biden. We will see what kind of steps he will take in the new period after the handover. Our hope is that Trump will take much different steps regarding the region in this period. Because the messages given from time to time can worry us. That is why we need to see January. I think we will see what kind of steps will be taken starting from January then."

In his statement, International Relations Expert Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kasım Han, who spoke in an exclusive interview with 12punto two days ago, pointed to the operation date and had used the following expressions: "Trump is not in power yet, and he will not start his new term until January. But a transition period is foreseen in the American system; that transition period has started as of today, and there is a transition that will be managed on behalf of Trump. I think Ankara is continuing its dialogue because of that transition, and I assume they have received some signals from there. Therefore, Biden is still responsible for the Pentagon, but as a result of the negotiations and meetings held with that transition team, Turkey will either start this business in mid-January or will take these steps in the coming period. In other words, an operation could be organized towards mid-January. This will emerge entirely as a result of the dialogue to be maintained with the Trump administration. Even if the gaps in between are realized over that famous 40 km depth, it will be valuable in terms of putting a distance between Turkey and this terrorist formation in Syria."
