Biden calls on Egypt and Qatar to work for a ceasefire
In phone calls with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, US President Joe Biden called for every effort to be made to secure the release of hostages in order to achieve a ceasefire.
US President Joe Biden discussed ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and Israel's preparations for an operation in Rafah with the leaders of Egypt and Qatar.
According to a statement from the White House, Biden and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed the ceasefire and hostage deal currently on the table during their phone call.
Stating that the US would work with Egypt and Qatar to ensure the full implementation of the terms, Biden called on Sisi to exert every effort to secure the release of hostages, which he described as the only obstacle to a ceasefire and the delivery of aid to civilians.
Highlighting the importance of protecting civilians, Biden also emphasized that Palestinians should not be displaced to Egypt or anywhere else outside of Gaza.
During the call, in which the two leaders evaluated ongoing efforts to increase the flow of aid to Gaza, Biden thanked Sisi for his efforts on the matter.
'SUFFICIENT AID MUST BE PROVIDED TO GAZA'
In a statement issued by the Egyptian Presidency, it was noted that the two leaders drew attention to the dangers of escalating military tensions in the city of Rafah.
During the meeting, where Sisi emphasized the necessity of providing full and sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza, the leaders also pointed to the need to continue efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading and reaffirmed the importance of a two-state solution as the path to ensuring security, peace, and stability in the region.
In a phone call with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, US President Biden also stated that the US would work with both countries to achieve a ceasefire.
CALL FOR THE RELEASE OF HOSTAGES
Calling on Al Thani to exert every effort for the release of the hostages, Biden thanked the Emir of Qatar and his team for their tireless efforts in Gaza.
The leaders, who also discussed efforts to increase the flow of aid to the people of Gaza, agreed to remain in close coordination, both directly and through their teams.
