CDU/CSU candidate for 2025 elections in Germany announced: 'We will put the country back in order'

It has been reported that the Chairman of the main opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, is the Chancellor candidate for the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) parties for the general elections to be held in Germany in the autumn of 2025.

In Berlin, Christian Social Union (CSU) Chairman Markus Söder and CDU Chairman Merz held a joint press conference. At the meeting, it was announced that the Chancellor candidate for the CDU/CSU parties is Merz.

EMPHASIS ON THE ECONOMY IN CANDIDACY SPEECH

CSU leader Söder expressed his 'clear support' for Merz, criticized the current ruling government coalition, and stated that they want to return to power to 'put Germany back in order' and revitalize the economy.

Merz, the Chancellor candidate for the CDU/CSU parties, also thanked Söder for their reliable cooperation. Stating that 'The Union is the last remaining people's party in the democratic center,' Merz noted the following:

'The situation in Germany needs to improve so that the economy as a whole can get back on its feet and recover. We will enter the 2025 federal election year with the determination to once again assume the leadership responsibility for our country, with a federal cabinet that we lead, with a policy that will put Germany back in the lead, and with a policy that will elevate the country. We will take action again with a policy that will enable us to be proud of our country, of Germany, once again.'

The Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, Hendrik Wüst, announced yesterday that he was withdrawing from the race for the Chancellor candidacy and that they were supporting Merz.
