Diphtheria outbreak in Nigeria's Niger state: 17 people have died

It has been reported that 17 people have lost their lives due to an increase in diphtheria cases in Niger state, located in northern Nigeria.

Niger State Commissioner for Health Murtala Bagana announced that the outbreak is affecting the Bida, Suleja, and Shiroro regions of the state. Bagana stated that a total of 124 diphtheria cases have been recorded in these regions.

According to the statement, 103 people who contracted the disease were discharged from the hospital following their treatment. However, 17 people have lost their lives due to the outbreak.

Bagana called on authorities to quickly establish contact with local governments to protect public health. Diphtheria is known as a contagious disease that can lead to serious consequences, especially in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals.
