Trump's campaign team announced that shots were heard near West Palm Beach in the afternoon and that Trump is safe.
Campaign communications director Steven Cheung stated, "President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. There are no further details at this time."
Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., announced on his X account following the incident that local law enforcement had found an AK-47 rifle in the bushes at the scene and that a suspect had been apprehended.
Associated Press (AP) sources stated that a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting Trump opened fire on the suspect while Trump was playing golf.

In an email sent to his supporters, Trump stated, "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and well. I will never surrender."
