Arson suspected in California wildfires: 1 person in custody

Wildfires that have been raging for days in and around the U.S. city of Los Angeles continue to spread to new areas.

According to a report by NBC News, Los Angeles law enforcement officials have taken an individual, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, into custody on suspicion of arson in the West Valley area near the fire.

ATTEMPTED TO START A FIRE

The suspect, who bystanders allege was "trying to start a fire," is being investigated for their connection to the incident.

Authorities are also investigating potential links to other fires in the region.

Los Angeles officials had previously announced that 10 people have lost their lives so far in the wildfire that broke out in one of the city's luxury neighborhoods.

EVACUATION ORDERS FOR THOUSANDS

Active evacuation orders remain in place for approximately 180,000 people across the Los Angeles area, with evacuation warnings issued for another 200,000 people.

Law enforcement officials announced yesterday that the person suspected of attempting to start a fire in the Woodland Hills area had been taken into custody.

Additionally, a statement released yesterday on the County Sheriff's Office's X account announced that 3 people had been taken into custody for looting.
