Indian Navy intercepts ship hijacked by Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea
The Indian Navy reported that it has intercepted a cargo ship hijacked by Somali pirates on December 18, 2023, in the Arabian Sea and has called for their surrender.
In a statement, the Indian Navy stated that a military vessel patrolling the western Arabian Sea came under fire from Somali pirates aboard a commercial ship that had been hijacked on December 18, 2023.
It was stated that the Indian Navy responded to the attack from the Malta-flagged commercial vessel 'MV Ruen' in self-defense.
CALL FOR 'RELEASE OF HOSTAGES'
The statement noted that the response to the attack was conducted within the framework of international law, emphasizing that the pirates were ordered to surrender and release the ship and any hostages they "might be holding."
The statement included the following: "The Indian Navy remains committed to maritime security and the safety of seafarers in the region."
