Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has retreated for a 2-day meditation session at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in the south of the country as the election process nears its end.

According to India's NDTV news site, Modi began his meditation at the memorial in the city of Kanyakumari ahead of the June 4 announcement of election results.

India's opposition Congress Party has viewed Modi's decision to begin meditation as a "move to violate election bans" and has filed an application with the election commission to prevent images of the meditation from appearing in the media.

The leftist party CPM has also filed an application with the Election Commission of India, requesting that the broadcast of images of Modi's meditation be banned on the grounds that they would serve as "propaganda material."

'WHY IS HE DOING IT WITH CAMERAS?'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also criticized Modi for conducting his meditation in the presence of cameras during a speech in the city of Kolkata as part of her election campaign, stating, "He always sits somewhere for 48 hours for publicity before the vote count. He can meditate, but why is he doing it with cameras?"

On the other hand, officials from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated that Prime Minister Modi's choice of Kanyakumari, the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea, for his meditation is significant as it carries a message of "national unity." BJP officials criticized opposition parties for opposing Modi's meditation, characterizing it as a "product of an anti-Hindu mentality."

It was stated that in addition to 2,000 police officers, the coast guard and naval forces have been deployed around the memorial to ensure Prime Minister Modi's security during his 2-day meditation period.

THE WORLD'S LARGEST ELECTION

Within the scope of the elections in India, which began on April 19 and will continue until June 1, approximately 968 million voters are casting their ballots to determine the members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the federal parliament.

Prime Minister Modi, who emerged victorious from the last elections, is competing against a broad coalition where many opposition parties have gathered under the name "Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)," with the "National Democratic Alliance (NDA)" formed under the leadership of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Voters are casting their ballots in 7 phases as part of the general elections covering 28 states and 8 special administrative regions known as "Union Territories" on April 19 and 26, as well as May 7, 13, 20, 25, and finally on June 1. The election results will be announced on June 4.
