Lebanese Parliament approves bill to completely abolish the death penalty

The Lebanese Parliament has approved a bill providing for the complete abolition of the death penalty in the country. The decision was announced by the official Lebanese news agency NNA.

Making a statement regarding the regulation, Lebanese Minister of Justice Adil Nassar stated that the abolition of the death penalty should not be misunderstood in terms of criminal justice.

Nassar emphasized that the decision "does not mean that there will be tolerance for crime." With the parliamentary approval, a critical step has been taken toward removing the death penalty from Lebanese legislation.
