Macron and Zelenskyy hold air defense talks

French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities and military support.

The call, which took place following Russia's attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, reportedly lasted about two hours. In statements on their social media accounts, the two leaders noted that they evaluated steps to be taken to protect Ukrainian airspace.

Macron argued that Russia is escalating tensions by targeting civilians. Stating that France will send interceptor missiles to Ukraine and increase its air defense support, Macron noted that cooperation will continue within the framework of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition launched in Paris on July 13 and the declaration of intent signed on November 17, 2025.

Macron also emphasized the need to ensure peace and increase pressure on Russia ahead of the "Coalition of Volunteers" meeting scheduled for Monday.

Zelenskiy thanked Macron for France's stance on accelerating the delivery of the latest military equipment and missiles, as well as providing licenses for missile production. The Ukrainian leader also conveyed that Macron is ready to support establishing contact with other partners who possess the necessary missiles for Patriot systems.
