Mobile phones banned for government officials in Iran

The Iranian Cyber Security Command has announced a new security measure for government officials and security teams. According to the Fars News Agency, devices connected to public communication networks will no longer be used by government officials.

This decision comes following allegations that Israel has used mobile phone signals in assassinations in Iran, particularly those targeting nuclear scientists. The report stated that even having phones turned off does not prevent location tracking, and therefore, more secure and harder-to-track devices must be used.

It was stated that this step was taken to prevent the recurrence of incidents such as the "pager attack" carried out by Israel against Hezbollah members last year. The Fars News Agency claimed that such devices are actively used for targeted assassinations.

Tehran MP Hamid Rasaei stated that all government officials and their close working teams must surrender their phones. However, there is no clear information yet on which ministries or institutions the ban covers or whether there will be exceptions for specific situations.
