Number of people experiencing temporary housing issues in Germany announced

The Federal Association for Assistance to the Homeless (BAG) in Germany conducted research on those who were evicted from their homes or apartments last year and experienced temporary homelessness.

According to the research, the number of temporarily homeless people in Germany increased by 58 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 607 thousand.

50 THOUSAND PEOPLE FORCED TO LIVE ON THE STREETS

While the vast majority of the temporarily homeless stayed with relatives, family, or in hotels due to housing problems last year, approximately 50 thousand people were forced to live on the streets.

The research stated that the increase in the number of people who became temporarily homeless is linked to inflation and the rise in the number of asylum seekers.

On the other hand, the Federal Government had announced its goals to overcome homelessness by 2030 with a "National Action Plan" to solve the housing problem in the country, and had made a series of promises such as building 100 thousand social housing units per year.
