Official results announced in KRG elections
According to the first official results of the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) came in first, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) second, and the opposition New Generation Movement third.
The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq has issued a statement regarding the initial results of the 6th term parliamentary elections in the KRG.
Accordingly, in the elections where 2 million 899 thousand 578 voters were eligible to cast ballots, 2 million 87 thousand 972 people voted, with a turnout rate reaching 72 percent and 99.63 percent of the votes counted.
While the KDP and PUK maintained their positions in the parliamentary rankings, the Gorran (Change) Movement, which had been the third-largest party in previous terms, suffered a significant loss of votes, while the Sulaymaniyah-based New Generation Movement, a rival to the PUK, significantly increased its vote share to follow the KDP and PUK.
According to the statement made by the commission, the KDP received 809 thousand 197 votes, the PUK 408 thousand 141, the New Generation Movement 290 thousand 991, the Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yekgirtu) 116 thousand 981, the Kurdistan Justice Group (Komel) 64 thousand 710, the Halwest (Stance) Movement 55 thousand 775, the People's Front 33 thousand 365, and Gorran 11 thousand 621 votes.
DISTRIBUTION IN PARLIAMENT ACCORDING TO UNOFFICIAL RESULTS
According to the first unofficial results published in local KRG media, the distribution of political parties in parliament has largely become clear.
Accordingly, it is estimated that in the 100-seat parliament, the KDP has won 39 seats, the PUK 23, the New Generation Movement 15, the Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yekgirtu) 7, the Kurdistan Justice Group (Komel) 3, the Halwest (Stance) Movement 4, the People's Front 2, Gorran 1, and the Kurdistan Alliance Group 1 seat.
