Pakistan and India reach an agreement

New steps have been taken toward the normalization of relations between Pakistan and India following the end of hostilities.

Unnamed officials announced that after the ceasefire reached following the clashes that erupted with India's attacks on Pakistan on May 7, the two countries agreed to withdraw their troops to peacetime positions by May 30.

The officials stated that military leaders from both countries would actively coordinate the phased withdrawal, describing this step as a continuation of confidence-building measures. Expressing that the diplomatic efforts of the US and other relevant countries contributed to the decision, the officials defined the move as the second phase of the ceasefire.

ABOUT THE INDIA-PAKISTAN TENSION

The terrorist attack carried out on April 22 at a tourist spot in Pahalgam, in India's Jammu and Kashmir state, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, had increased tensions between India and Pakistan.

India claimed that Pakistan had a role in the attack, while the Pakistani administration denied the allegation. The Indian Armed Forces launched "Operation Sindoor" against Pakistan, announcing that it was targeting "terror infrastructure."

Pakistan, in response to India's attacks, launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos. In the mutual attacks, 51 people lost their lives on the Pakistani side and 31 people on the Indian side.
