Russia conducts military exercises on Ukrainian border

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on Tuesday that the exercises are being conducted in the Southern Military District, which is located on Russia's border. The ministry did not share clear information regarding the region where the exercises are taking place.

The statement from the Ministry of Defense indicated that the exercises are designed to test "the readiness of personnel and equipment of units that fight with non-strategic nuclear weapons to respond and to unconditionally ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state."

The statement expressed that the exercises are in response to "provocative statements and threats made by certain Western officials."

THE ORDER CAME FROM PUTIN

Russian President Putin had ordered the exercises to be held after statements from Western states regarding Ukraine caused discomfort in Moscow.

Russian officials pointed to statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who said that NATO countries should not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Kyiv, and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who said that Kyiv has the right to fire Western-made missiles at Russia.
