Russian journalist killed in Ukrainian attack on Zaporizhzhia
The Russian newspaper Izvestia announced that Russian war correspondent Semyon Eremin lost his life yesterday in an attack carried out by Ukraine on Zaporizhzhia.
Russia’s daily newspaper Izvestia stated that 42-year-old war correspondent Semyon Eremin was killed as a result of an attack carried out by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) while he was returning from a visit to a Russian unit in the Zaporizhzhia region, which Russia annexed during the war.
The report stated, "Izvestia war correspondent Semyon Eremin was killed in an attack by Ukrainian drones in Zaporizhzhia, where he had gone for reporting on April 19."
'WE OPPOSE THE KILLING OF JOURNALISTS'
United Nations Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement to Russian media, "We oppose the killing of journalists. All such cases must be investigated thoroughly."
While there has been no statement from Ukraine yet, the Russian journalist had been working in the war zone since February 2022, when Russia began its attacks.
According to the US-based non-governmental organization Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 15 journalists have been killed in the attacks in Russia so far.
