Russian President Putin in China: 'Our relations are of vital importance'

Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to China as part of his first foreign visit since being re-elected president. The Russian leader, who went to Beijing for a two-day visit, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the meeting between the two leaders, the national anthems of both countries were played loudly, and numerous large Russian and Chinese flags waved in Tiananmen Square.

Xi told Russia's Putin that China and Russia did not reach their current relationship easily.

'CHINA IS ALWAYS A GOOD NEIGHBOR'

Making statements after welcoming Putin, Xi said, "China and Russia did not reach their current relationship easily, and the relationship should be valued. China will always be a good neighbor, friend, and partner."

Russian President Putin also stated that Russia-China cooperation is not directed against anyone and that the relations between the two countries are of vital importance.

The Russian leader Putin said, "Relations between Russia and China are of vital importance, and no one is against this. Our cooperation is a key stabilizer in the international arena."
