In a written statement, CMA CGM stated that the company has taken measures in recent days to ensure the safety of its vessels in the vicinity of the Red Sea.

The statement expressed that the situation in the region continues to deteriorate and concerns regarding security are increasing.

It was reported that the crews of all the company's cargo ships currently in the region and scheduled to pass through the Red Sea have been ordered to "head to safe waters," and that once these vessels reach safe waters, they have been instructed to halt their voyages immediately until further notice.

The statement emphasized that the company is taking all necessary measures to maintain the transport services it provides to its customers.

The company announced its decision to halt shipping operations in the Red Sea following the targeting of Israel-linked vessels in the Red Sea by the Houthis in Yemen.

ISRAELI SHIPS ARE BEING TARGETED

The leader of the Houthis in Yemen, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, threatened in a televised speech on November 14 that they could target Israeli ships in the Red Sea.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced in a written statement on the X social media platform on November 19 that they would target any ship flying the Israeli flag in response to Israel's attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Subsequently, the Houthis carried out drone and missile attacks on two Israeli ships named "Unity Explorer" and "Number Nine" in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

In a statement made by the Israeli shipping company ZIM on November 29, it was stated that the company's ships would not use the Suez Canal in Egypt, citing the security situation in the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the X social media platform on December 4 that 4 attacks had been carried out against 3 commercial vessels in international waters in the southern Red Sea.

The statement reported that the US Navy destroyer "USS Carney" responded to distress calls from commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea, and that the destroyer shot down 3 drones heading toward it while assisting the ships.

In its statement, CENTCOM announced that the Houthis had attempted to seize a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker named "Ardmore Encounter" in the southern Red Sea.
