The threat of cannabis and 'zombie drug' in e-cigarettes

A study conducted in the UK has shown that the substance known as "zombie drug" or "xylazine" in e-cigarettes poses respiratory risks. This substance, used for the sedation of large animals, can have fatal consequences for humans. Experts stated that the presence of this substance, which is generally considered harmless, is alarming.

According to the report in T24, xylazine has been used globally by being illegally mixed with powerful opioids such as heroin or fentanyl. A death case linked to the use of this substance has been reported in the UK, and concerns have been raised regarding an increase in its misuse, similar to the situation in the US.

Dr. Caroline Copeland and her team from King’s College London announced that new types of illegal products containing xylazine have emerged in the UK market. It was stated that risky products such as e-cigarettes and tablets containing codeine and diazepam (Valium) mixed with xylazine have been found.

Researchers have contacted toxicology laboratories in the UK to collect more data. Warnings were issued that the use of these e-cigarettes could lead to respiratory distress, dangerously low blood pressure, slow heart rate, wounds prone to infection, addiction, and severe withdrawal symptoms, and could result in death.
