Trump: If we don't decide to keep the oil, we will eventually withdraw from Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump made statements regarding the tension with Iran and the military process while on an official visit to Ireland.

Speaking to members of the press, Trump said that the U.S. could remain in Iran and take control of the oil reserves in the region. Reiterating his claims that the war in Iran could end in a short time, Trump argued that the conflicts would most likely end after the midterm elections to be held in the U.S. in November.

Stating that he would only make the "right deal" with Iran and would not agree to a "useless" compromise, Trump claimed that the Tehran administration has been calling them incessantly for peace negotiations.

Referring to the oil agreement the U.S. reached with Venezuela in August, Trump pointed to a similar scenario for Iran. Trump said, "If we don't decide to stay here and keep the oil, as we did in Venezuela, we will eventually withdraw from Iran."

The U.S. President also claimed that the revenues obtained from Venezuelan oil have covered the cost of the war in Iran many times over.

In previous statements made by the Tehran government, claims that contact had been established with the U.S. were denied.
