Trump's controversial post on the Strait of Hormuz: 'New US Territory'

US President Donald Trump made a controversial post on his social media account regarding the Strait of Hormuz. In Trump's post, the phrase "New US Territory" was used on a map featuring the Strait of Hormuz.

The post brought back to the agenda Trump's previous remarks about declaring the Strait of Hormuz "US territory." While the strategic transit point located between Iran and Oman was marked on the map, the depiction of the region as US territory drew attention.

During an event he attended on August 14, Trump claimed that the US Navy was enforcing a "total blockade" in the Strait of Hormuz and stated, "After we completely defeat Iran, I will declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory before long."

In another social media post, the US President had also stated that Washington had "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz and that he believed they could maintain this control.

Iranian officials, on the other hand, state that the Strait will not be opened unless the US ends its interventions and naval blockade regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and fulfills the requirements of the memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington on June 17.
