Trump wants to change the name of the Strait of Hormuz

Trump wants to change the name of the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump expressed his idea to change the name of the Strait of Hormuz during a speech at a campaign event organized by the Republican Party in the state of Tennessee.

Seeking support for Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections to be held on November 3, Trump said in his speech, "We are thinking about changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the Trump Strait."

In the same speech, Trump used harsh language toward Iran. Describing Iran as the "number one country of terrorism," Trump claimed that if the country possessed nuclear weapons, it would use them.

Touching upon American soldiers who lost their lives in US attacks against Iran, Trump stated, "Those young people we lost in the war against Iran did not die in vain. You cannot allow a totally crazy person or a crazed group to have nuclear weapons."

Trump also claimed that Iran might be planning a new attack before the US midterm elections. "We could finish this job very quickly. They don't know how well I've treated them," said Trump, without sharing details regarding his claim.

NAME SUGGESTIONS FOR OCEANS AS WELL

Having previously brought up the idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, Trump said in his Tennessee speech that new names could also be given to the oceans to the east and west of the country.

Trump said, "We have our Gulf. We have a beautiful lake. Now someone said you need a river. We need a river, we need an ocean." He then, in a joking manner, brought up the names "Trump Ocean" or "American Continent Ocean" for the Atlantic or Pacific.

Targeting Michigan's Democratic senatorial candidate, Egyptian-born Abdul El-Sayed, in his speech, Trump said of El-Sayed, "To me, he is Mohammed and a radical jihadist." Defending his right to address the candidate as he wishes, Trump stated, "I am the president. I can call him whatever I want."
