Trump: We will protect ships in the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump stated that he has given instructions to support the security of maritime trade in the Gulf region, saying, "The US Navy will begin escorting tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, if necessary."

US President Donald Trump made statements regarding the increasing security risks to maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf region following attacks between his country and Israel against Iran, and the retaliatory steps taken by the Tehran administration.

Trump noted that he has instructed the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to support the security of maritime trade in the region. In his statement, the US President said, "I have instructed that political risk insurance and financial security guarantees be provided for all maritime trade passing through the Gulf, especially energy shipments, at a very reasonable cost.

The US Navy will begin escorting tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, if necessary," he said.

Trump added, "No matter what happens, the US will ensure that the global energy flow continues uninterrupted. The US is the world's greatest economic and military power. Additional steps will be taken."
