Trump's ceasefire statement: It's up to Russia now

US President Donald Trump stated that they have reached an agreement with Ukraine on a ceasefire and that they will also hold talks with Moscow. Regarding the ceasefire agreement in Ukraine, Trump said, "It's up to Russia now."

Trump emphasized that the talks held yesterday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between US and Ukrainian delegations, where Ukraine agreed to a 30-day temporary ceasefire, were successful.

"We had a great success yesterday (in Jeddah). If it goes into effect, we will have a full ceasefire. It's up to Russia now," Trump said, noting that some American officials have gone to Moscow for talks.

Trump assessed, "We have good relations with both sides. I hope we can also return from Russia with a ceasefire. If we achieve this, I think it will open up 80 percent of the way to stopping this terrible war."

US President Trump had evaluated the recent talks between the US and Ukraine to members of the press in the White House garden yesterday.

Trump had stated, "Ukraine has accepted this agreement and I hope Russia will too. We will meet with them today and tomorrow and I hope we can reach an agreement. So what we are talking about here is a full ceasefire. Ukraine has accepted this and I hope Russia will too."

When asked whether Ukrainian President Zelensky would be invited to the White House again, Trump replied, "Yes, absolutely."

Stating that he would also speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the ceasefire this week, Trump said, "It takes two to tango."

EU WAS FORMED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE US

On the other hand, in his remarks in the Oval Office, Trump repeated his claims that the European Union has "treated the US badly" for many years.

Noting that the "unfair trade treatment" applied by the EU to the US would end during his presidency, Trump stated that they would apply the same customs tariffs to the EU that the EU applies to them.

Asserting the claim that "The EU was formed to take advantage of the US," Trump once again argued that European countries are treating the US unfairly regarding customs duties.
