Turkish-flagged ship hits mine in the Black Sea

It has been learned that a Turkish-flagged cargo ship sustained minor damage after hitting a mine near the Romanian coast in the Black Sea yesterday, and that the crew is safe.

The UK-based maritime security firm Ambrey, citing intelligence it received, announced that the ship struck a naval mine at a point near the entrance to the Sulina Channel, 11 nautical miles off the coast of Sulina, Romania.

Anchored for damage assessment

In a note sent to its clients, Ambrey stated, "According to the information provided, the ship experienced an explosion around 12:30 TSI and anchored briefly to conduct a damage assessment. At 15:10 TSI, the ship resumed its voyage."

Ambrey stated that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

With the incident that occurred yesterday, a ship has struck a naval mine for the first time in months. While the Black Sea is classified as a high-risk zone by insurance companies, floating mines continue to pose a danger. It was stated that the mine explosion caused minor damage to the ship's ballast tank, but the crew is safe.
