Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he discussed Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and European support during a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Zelenskyy noted that the meeting took place following US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding an energy ceasefire. The Ukrainian leader stated that Russia has carried out new attacks on energy facilities during this period.

Arguing that Russia takes such steps during periods when pressure eases, Zelenskyy noted the importance of Europe maintaining its “principled stance.”
Germany’s efforts to organize a “Coalition of the Willing” meeting were also on the agenda. Zelenskyy said that other formats that would strengthen Ukraine and Europe should also be actively utilized.
Zelenskyy stated that the parties agreed to hold a meeting of national security advisors in the E3-Ukraine format. Noting that support for Ukraine’s financial resilience was also evaluated during the call, Zelenskyy stated that these topics would be discussed in more detail during an in-person meeting to be held this week.
