Zelenskyy and Trump hold phone call on war agenda
Ukrainian leader Zelenskyy announced that he and Trump discussed the peace process and a planned meeting in New York.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he held a phone call with US President Donald Trump and that they discussed efforts to end the war.
In a statement on his social media account, Zelenskyy noted that the two leaders also discussed a planned meeting in New York in the coming days. Zelenskyy stated, "We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could change many things. There is a diplomatic dynamic present."
Recalling that Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv in previous weeks, Zelenskyy emphasized that contacts with the American side are ongoing.
The path to peace is the number one priority. There are ideas regarding basic security issues such as energy, food, and the protection of human life, as well as steps to reduce tensions. We are working with the American team and are ready to take truly serious steps.
Zelenskyy also thanked Trump for signing the bill that mandates sanctions on the Russian government and state-owned companies, and introduces tariffs on countries that import energy from Russia.
