Quoting Nureddin Nebati's words from May 19, 2023, on the social media platform X: "While they were doing everything in their power to provide great opportunities to those who suck the blood of Turkey by raising interest rates, we said, 'We will lower interest rates.'
We did not bow down to anyone because we said the call to prayer will not be silenced, the flag will not be lowered." Özgür Demirtaş said the following:
"You lowered interest rates below inflation:
- You caused inflation to explode.
- You sent housing prices soaring, creating a housing problem.
- You drove car prices crazy; second-hand became more expensive than first-hand.
- You sent milk prices soaring. You put a price cap on it so the public wouldn't get angry. This time, you made people slaughter their animals.
- When inflation exploded, you sold the reserves, which are the most valuable thing we have, so it wouldn't explode further.
- When the reserves ran out, you introduced the KKM (FX-protected deposit scheme), which you now realize is a huge BURDEN, so the TL wouldn't collapse further.
- Because you lowered interest rates, you now have to raise them MUCH more.
- You unleashed trolls on people who love this country very much and begged you not to do it, not to act this way.
And you are still talking, it's UNBELIEVABLE!
I keep saying I won't talk anymore, but when I see these things, my blood pressure spikes. I swear I want to completely erase the country's agenda from my brain. Enough is enough..."
A WARNING FROM DEMİRTAŞ AS WELL
On the other hand, Özgür Demirtaş also warned those who earn income through social media. In his post, Demirtaş said:
"Here is what those who earn income through social media need to do:
1) With the document you receive, you must open an account at a bank (a state bank is better) where taxes are deducted AUTOMATICALLY. Your income must be deposited into that bank account, and the tax will be deducted automatically (15%)
2) If your annual income exceeds 1.9 million TL, you must file a personal tax return in addition to the automatic tax paid (you have moved up to 40%)
3) Also, if you have the right to work in a foreign country, that country may also deduct an EXTRA Self-Employment tax of 15% (you move up to 55%)
Don't forget to pay your taxes..."
"SHAME ON YOU"
Nureddin Nebati reacted sharply to Demirtaş's post. Nebati stated, "I have seen immoral, slanderous trolls. But seeing people disguised as professors who lie so basely makes me sick to my stomach. When did I make such a statement? Shame on you. May you and the site that wrote the fake news drown in your lies, deceit, and slanders."
"I AM DELETING WHAT I WROTE TOO"
Responding to Nebati, Özgür Demirtaş later noted the following in his post:
"Mr. Nureddin,
You should say that to the site that published the news, not to me. Did I write the news? I wrote what I wrote when I read the news stating that you said these things.
Furthermore, did I lower the interest rate against all academic notions? If you are saying that you did not say such a thing, then I will delete what I wrote.
Please have these fake news reports deleted as well. Finally, what does 'disguised as a professor' mean? This is not a style that suits you. I sincerely believe that the economic policy you followed caused severe damage to the country. Look, if both interest rates, the dollar, and inflation have increased at the same time today, it is because of the policies implemented after Naci Ağbal. I wish they hadn't been done."
