The most preferred car brand in February has been announced

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has published the "Road Motor Vehicles" statistics for the February 2026 period. Accordingly, the total number of vehicles registered in traffic in February was 121 thousand 791.

In the distribution of new registrations, cars ranked first with 51.9 percent. Cars were followed by motorcycles at 30.3 percent and small trucks at 11.7 percent. Other vehicle types were recorded as 2.5 percent trucks, 1.7 percent tractors, 1.1 percent minibuses, 0.7 percent buses, and 0.1 percent special-purpose vehicles.

DECLINE IN MONTHLY DATA IS NOTABLE

The number of vehicles registered in traffic in February decreased by 15.8 percent compared to the previous month. During this period, motorcycle registrations increased by 36.2 percent, and tractor registrations increased by 13.4 percent.

In contrast, there was a decrease of 60.3 percent in special-purpose vehicles, 46.3 percent in small trucks, 37.0 percent in trucks, 26.6 percent in minibuses, 22.1 percent in cars, and 11.0 percent in buses.

LARGEST DECLINE IN ANNUAL COMPARISON IS IN TRACTORS

Compared to the same month last year, the total number of vehicles registered in traffic decreased by 11.0 percent. On an annual basis, only small truck registrations saw an increase of 13.7 percent.

Declines were recorded in other vehicle types. There was a 54.6 percent decrease in tractors, 31.4 percent in minibuses, 19.5 percent in special-purpose vehicles, 19.4 percent in buses, 17.5 percent in motorcycles, and 8.1 percent in cars.

TOTAL NUMBER OF VEHICLES IN TURKEY EXCEEDED 33.8 MILLION

As of the end of February, the total number of vehicles registered in traffic in Turkey reached 33 million 869 thousand 80.

Cars accounted for 51.7 percent of total vehicles, motorcycles for 21.2 percent, small trucks for 14.6 percent, and tractors for 6.9 percent. The remaining portion consisted of 3.1 percent trucks, 1.6 percent minibuses, 0.6 percent buses, and 0.3 percent special-purpose vehicles.

806 THOUSAND VEHICLE TRANSFERS IN THE SECOND-HAND MARKET

A total of 806 thousand 588 vehicles were transferred in February. Cars took the largest share in transfer transactions with 69.0 percent.

Cars were followed by small trucks with 15.4 percent, motorcycles with 8.1 percent, tractors with 2.9 percent, trucks with 2.1 percent, minibuses with 1.7 percent, and buses with 0.5 percent.

PROMINENT BRANDS IN CAR PREFERENCES

In the distribution of the 63 thousand 171 cars registered in traffic in February by brand, Renault ranked first with 14.8 percent.

Renault was followed by Toyota with 11.0 percent, Volkswagen with 7.2 percent, Hyundai with 5.9 percent, and Fiat with 5.3 percent. The rest of the list included Peugeot with 4.8 percent, Skoda with 4.7 percent, Opel with 4.7 percent, TOGG with 4.7 percent, Citroen with 4.3 percent, BYD with 3.1 percent, and Chery with 3.0 percent.

While Ford had a 2.9 percent share, Mercedes-Benz 2.8 percent, Kia 2.7 percent, Nissan 2.3 percent, BMW 2.1 percent, Audi 2.1 percent, Mini 2.0 percent, and Volvo 1.5 percent, the total share of other brands was recorded as 8.4 percent.

NET INCREASE OF 258 THOUSAND IN TRAFFIC IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS

In the January-February period, the number of vehicles registered in traffic decreased by 11.9 percent compared to the same period last year, falling to 266 thousand 411.

In the same period, the number of vehicles deregistered from traffic increased by 15.2 percent to 8 thousand 186. Thus, a net increase of 258 thousand 225 vehicles occurred in the total number of vehicles in traffic in the first two months of the year.

SHARE OF HYBRID AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES IS RISING

Looking at the fuel types of the 144 thousand 279 cars registered in traffic in the first two months of the year, gasoline vehicles ranked first with 42.5 percent.

The share of hybrid vehicles reached 29.8 percent, and the share of electric vehicles reached 18.2 percent. Diesel cars had a 9.0 percent share, and LPG vehicles had a 0.5 percent share.

As of the end of February, in the fuel type distribution of the 17 million 523 thousand 423 cars registered in traffic, diesel vehicles stood out with 32.4 percent, gasoline vehicles with 31.0 percent, and LPG vehicles with 29.9 percent.

ENGINE VOLUME AND COLOR PREFERENCES

In the first two months of the year, 32.4 percent of the registered cars consisted of vehicles with an engine volume of 1300cc and below.

In color preferences, gray ranked first with 42.2 percent, while white ranked second with 25.7 percent. Black with 10.9 percent and blue with 10.5 percent were among the other preferred colors.
