Darkness in the hearts, evil in the minds
Human history consists almost entirely of records related to conflict. Narratives of victory produced through murders, wars, and massacres. So much so that while humanity narrates its own reality through a conflict-oriented lens, it has chosen to surrender love, affection, peace, and reconciliation to the fictional worlds of fairy tales, novels, epics, and poetry. Thus, it has sought to alleviate the pain, fatigue, and burden of real life, which is rooted in violence, by taking refuge in the love-oriented realm of fiction. This is likely why fiction is so often equated with entertainment.
It is the human being who creates both reality and fiction. If so, why do they choose violence, conflict, war, killing, etc., in their real lives, while tending to create a world that is the opposite of this in the realm of fiction? When it is possible to create a real world composed of love, goodness, and beauty, why do they choose to do the opposite? Since humans are capable of creating a fictional world made of goodness, beauty, and love, it would not be accurate to say that the essence of humanity contains only tendencies toward conflict, violence, inflicting pain, and feeling pain. I do not believe any sensible person would fill their entire life with pain, violence, ambition, and evil, knowing full well that it is temporary. If preferring evil over good is a problem—which it is, a serious one—it would not be very accurate to associate this with humanity as a whole. A generalization that love of evil or a penchant for violence is in the essence of humanity should not be made. However, on the other hand, isn't it strange that evil has directed a large segment of human history? Moreover, we are witnessing that as humanity moves away from barbaric periods and toward civilization in terms of time, evil is increasing. On one hand, science is developing, and great technological advancements that are products of reason and intelligence are taking place, but on the other hand, the number of people who feed and fuel evil is increasing. Isn't that a sharp contradiction?
Although it may seem like a contradiction, it is not. The whole issue lies in finding the answer to the question of who the boss is, that is, who holds the sovereignty. I think the story begins with the human discovery of matter. Or rather, with the human beginning to place a value on matter that is above their own. And some people establish the system by using this power attributed to matter in line with their own interests. Thus, the adventure of humans slaughtering humans for the sake of matter begins.
Today's capitalist order is the peak of this adventure. We live in a world where everything is measured by money, and all relationships and values are shaped by money. All strategies are built on an understanding where power is associated with money. For this reason, humanity cannot escape its troubles. Constant war, conflict, slaughter—in other words, evil.
This understanding does not remain only at the global level. All relationships concerning humans are shaped around this understanding. The conflict-ridden communication that a person initiates within themselves unfortunately permeates all forms of relationship, from the micro level where the individual is involved to the macro level. Concepts associated with goodness and beauty, such as friendship, peace, love, and affection, have been completely hollowed out. These concepts, which never found the place they deserved on the human value scale anyway, have now completely suffered from devaluation and loss of meaning in the capitalist relationship environment of today's world. We are supposedly living in a glittering, sparkling world illuminated by artificial lights. Darkness in the hearts, evil in the minds. We are supposedly living, if that is what you call living humanely.
