In my opinion, Jeffrey Sachs highlighted important points that will go down in history with his speech at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. He expressed things that many of us had already guessed or known in a brave and clear language. There are important lessons that those who shape policy, in particular, should take from Sachs's speech.
Sachs says that the war in the Middle East will not end unless America wants it to. Most of us already know this. As long as America does not withdraw its hand from the Middle East, and indeed from the world, inhumane massacres will continue. But one of the important points Sachs emphasized is that the war centered in Syria was started by the order of President Obama. He says the real issue is not Bashar al-Assad's dictatorial rule, but America's effort to make Israel a major power dependent on it in the Middle East. More clearly, America is using Israel in the Middle East as a war apparatus in line with its own goals. Since the emergence of the unrest known as the Arab Spring in the Middle East and the weakening of the region's powerful states, there has been no peace for the peoples of the region.
War is America's choice, says Jeffrey Sachs. Taking its ally Israel along with it, America is trying to decide which country will be governed by which regimes. It wants to dictate its own decisions and preferences. Sachs says that as long as America does not abandon this attitude, the war in the Middle East will never end. America continues the wars in the region by providing military and financial support.
This is nothing new. It is not something that only applies to Middle Eastern countries either. Ever since the United States was founded and reached a level where it directs the world economy, the world has not been free from trouble. On one hand, there is a modernizing, civilizing world, but on the other, there are massacres. The development of technology is being used not for the benefit of humanity, but almost for its destruction. Parallel to the development of new techniques, methods, and technologies, the world has become America's playground. It is known that the First World War, which resulted in mass slaughter, created an environment for America's experiments in propaganda and perception management. Similarly, I don't think there is anyone who does not know that the Second World War was a slaughter environment where America tested its war technologies and weapons of mass destruction.
This power, which stirs up the world whenever it wants, declares cold wars whenever it wants, and determines the world agenda with different war and conflict methods, techniques, and tools, has literally become a trouble for humanity.
Precautions must be taken. The only way to do this is to create awareness. All countries and peoples must challenge this power that constantly exploits the world and threatens humanity on the axis of imperialism. America poses a threat not only regionally but globally. Its embargo on China with high customs duties, its threats against Canada, its reach into Eastern Europe by seizing Ukraine's mines, its threats against South America, etc., mean that humanity will never find peace because of this predatory attitude.
Although liberalism is based on individualism with its own free will, it seems it does not take the same free will into account at the level of societies and countries. However, freedom is a concept that should start at the individual level and continue at the level of countries and states. Making the individual free while preventing the society to which the individual belongs from using its own free will is not true liberalism or libertarianism. Therefore, Western liberalism has been suspended with the involvement of capitalism, and colonialism based on material power at all levels, from individual to social, has become the main operator of the system. The desire and tendency of America, which is still the world's largest economic power, to rule the world is the most concrete indicator of this.
There is only one way out. Every individual must claim their own free will. The second stage of the process, which begins with the understanding of individual freedom, is for every society to be able to manifest its own free will. However, creating awareness alone is not enough for this. It is necessary to work, produce, and become self-sufficient. Let us not forget that the one who produces governs the one who does not. Production is the most important operator of the relationship of sovereignty and dependency. Existence can only be demonstrated with correct strategies and original policies created on the axis of the understanding of freedom.
