Cem Karaca's first wife Semra Uçbay speaks to 12punto: 'Many things in the film are told incorrectly'

The controversy continues regarding the film 'Cem Karaca’nın Gözyaşları', which tells the life story of the artist Cem Karaca, whose unforgettable songs such as 'Tamirci Çırağı', 'Namus Belası', 'Bu Son Olsun', and 'Resimdeki Gözyaşları' are on everyone's lips.

Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, had applied to the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Court to stop the screening of the film "Cem Karaca'nın Gözyaşları," which is about the artist's life.

An interim decision was made in the ongoing trial. The screening of the film was suspended, and enforcement offices were authorized to carry out the suspension.

If İlkim Karaca deposits 3.5 million TL, the film will be removed from theaters.

Amidst all these developments, the artist's first and fourth wife, Semra Uçbay, broke her 20-year silence.

'MANY THINGS IN THE FILM ARE TOLD INCORRECTLY'

Semra Uçbay, who is also mentioned in the film about Cem Karaca's life, stated, "I was not asked for permission for the film. According to what Cem Karaca's wife İlkim Karaca says, many things in the film are told incorrectly. If a film is being made, the opinions and ideas of people who had a place in Cem's life should have been consulted. They included scenes that never happened and are far from reality. I guess that's their direction... İlkim Karaca is fighting on this issue, but I don't have that kind of motivation or energy."

'WHY WOULD I GO AND WATCH IT?'

Responding to the question 'Have you watched the film?', Uçbay said, "For heaven's sake, why would I go and watch it? I have erased everything from my mind. Talking about these topics gives me no pleasure. However, if any TV channel airs the film in the future, I might watch it."

'KIVANÇ TATLITUĞ OR ERDAL BEŞİKÇİOĞLU SHOULD HAVE PLAYED CEM'

Touching upon İsmail Hacıoğlu portraying Cem Karaca, Uçbay said, "I didn't find it right at all for İsmail Hacıoğlu to play Cem Karaca. Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ or Erdal Beşikçioğlu or someone like that should have played Cem. It's not something that should have happened. It's all wrong from start to finish."

'I HAD TO QUIT THEATER'

Explaining that she settled in Edremit after separating from Cem Karaca, Uçbay said, "I settled in Edremit 20 years ago to escape from irrelevant questions. I had to quit the theater, which I loved very much. I have been living a retired life here for a long time. Believe me, I wasn't thinking of talking at all, but I couldn't refuse you."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, had applied to the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Court to stop the screening of the film 'Cem Karaca'nın Gözyaşları', which is about the artist's life.

Accepting the request, the court decided to stop the screening of the film, which was released on January 26, 2024.

If İlkim Karaca deposits 3.5 million TL, the film will be removed from theaters.

Speaking after the suspension decision was issued, Emrah Karaca said, "We are going through an interesting process. We are truly saddened to be facing such a situation in the first week of our release, at the end of a film that had so much effort put into it, and which received almost full marks from everyone who came to the premiere and all the viewers who went to the cinema from the first day on, following a magnificent premiere."

Speaking to 12punto, İlkim Karaca said, "If we can find it, we want to deposit the 3.5 million TL and have the film removed from theaters."
