Erol Evgin and Devrim Erbil open their joint exhibition titled 'Side by Side'
Artist Erol Evgin and painter Devrim Erbil have crowned their 60-year friendship, which began with a teacher-student relationship, with a joint painting exhibition titled 'Side by Side'.
The 'Side by Side' exhibition, curated by İbrahim Karaoğlu and opened at Çayyolu Galeri Soyut, which explores the reflection of space in painting, can be visited until March 16.
Erol Evgin stated that he studied architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and that Bedri Rahmi Eyüpoğlu, Cemal Tollu, Neşet Günal, Özdemir Altan, and Devrim Erbil were his painting instructors.
'I WATCHED WITH ADMIRATION'
Evgin said, "I have always watched Professor Devrim with great admiration, both at the academy and afterwards. When Professor Devrim suggested a painting exhibition a few years ago, I thought he was joking. He said, 'Let's open an exhibition together.' Of course, I accepted."
Painter Devrim Erbil also pointed to the importance of the teacher-student relationship in art education, stating that educators at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University have been teaching their students with a sense of brotherhood and friendship for years.
'OUR RELATIONSHIP TURNED INTO AN ARTISTIC FRIENDSHIP'
Erbil said, "We came together with Erol in such an environment. Our teacher-student relationship has now turned into an artistic friendship. It is beyond all these concepts I have mentioned. Erol and I are like brothers. We have shared life.
It is wonderful to be together in Ankara. Maybe one day we will even make a painting with a joint signature, but we cannot sing together."
