Haluk Levent speaks on Eurovision: 'It has deviated from its ultimate goal'
Artist Haluk Levent spoke about the Eurovision Song Contest, which has been the scene of controversy. Levent said, "Eurovision has deviated from its ultimate goal. Neighbors vote for neighbors."
The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, held this year in the city of Malmö, Sweden, sparked significant controversy due to Israel's attacks on the blockaded Gaza.
While the decisions made by Eurovision organizers were criticized by both contestants and viewers, the public in Sweden took to the streets to protest Israel's participation in the contest.
The winner of this year's controversial Eurovision Song Contest was Nemo, competing for Switzerland. Nemo placed first with 591 points for the song 'The Code'.
Famous singer Haluk Levent answered questions from members of the press before a concert he gave in Kyrenia.
'NEIGHBORS VOTE FOR NEIGHBORS'
Speaking about Eurovision, Levent said, "Eurovision is our nostalgia. The world should no longer be a place where songs are competed against each other. The public and the jury choose, but in my opinion, Semiha Yankı's song 'Seninle Bir Dakika' is the most beautiful song in the world, yet it didn't come in first. Eurovision has deviated from its ultimate goal. Neighbors vote for neighbors. My view is that rather than entering the contest, we should promote our music to the world. Eurovision is not the pinnacle."
