The exhibition, realized with the contributions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, featured works from the provinces of Kastamonu, Mersin Silifke, Sivas, Elazığ, Düzce, and Bilecik. Art lovers showed great interest in the “1000-year memory in the 100th year of the Republic of Türkiye” handicrafts exhibition held at a shopping center in Ankara.

'20 THOUSAND OF OUR CITIZENS HAVE RECEIVED CERTIFICATES'

Bülent Kahraman Çolakoğlu, Head of the Education and Publication Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, emphasized the importance of providing vocational and sub-vocational skills for employment in rural areas, protecting traditional handicrafts, and transferring them to future generations, stating: "Our traditional handicrafts are important components of our cultural values, reflecting the common emotions, thoughts, and aesthetic understanding of the Turkish nation, which are nourished by our glorious history and the way our ancient nation perceives and lives life.

When our ancestors' core values, brought from their ancestral homeland, are blended with the heritage coming from the thousands of years of history of Anatolia, the unique handicrafts of our culture emerge. Handicrafts, which are shaped according to the geography lived in, the raw materials found in that geography, the lifestyle of the society in which they develop, and most importantly, the taste and skill of the person producing them, are an expression of a society's aesthetic taste.

We know and believe that we can live by adding science and art to everything we do in the Century of Türkiye. For this reason, we are presenting the handmade works produced by our trainees between the ages of 18 and 75, who are studying at our handicraft training center directorates that have been continuing their educational activities for 60 years, to the appreciation of you, our valued citizens, in Ankara," he said.

'THERE IS NO FACTORY PRODUCTION'

Turgay Çam, Director of the Elazığ Handicrafts Training Center, stated that all the products exhibited were handmade, saying, "We held our ‘1000-Year Memory’ exhibition, which we opened in memory of the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Republic, in Ankara. All our products here are produced under the supervision of our master instructors and teachers, in our courses with at least 12 trainees in each course, through the skill of our courses and the manual labor of our master instructors. All our products are completely handmade, and there is no production under the name of machine or factory in any of our products. For today's exhibition, we brought one example from almost all of our products belonging to our more than one hundred courses."

Zeynur İnce, a Local Fabric Weaving Teacher at the Silifke Atatürk Handicrafts Training Center, stated that they are bringing old and forgotten products to light and that the products made are very popular, noting the following:

"We weave coffee table covers, tablecloths, and such decorative products to be used at home by using different techniques on the local fabric weaving loom. We are trying to use the forgotten products that were left in chests in our homes by bringing them to the present day and modernizing them. It varies according to the size of the cover and the motif we will use; we have covers that we finish in a week, and others that take three weeks. Women especially like them very much. They are used with appreciation."
