Record number of visitors to World Heritage site Mount Nemrut during the holiday
Mount Nemrut, a UNESCO World Heritage site known as one of the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset, was visited by approximately 8 thousand people during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Acting Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Abuzer Gelse told reporters that there was a high volume of visitors at Mount Nemrut due to the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Inviting domestic and international tourists to the site, Gelse stated, "Due to the 9-day holiday, there is a surge in activity across the entire Commagene destination. A holiday rush is also clearly visible at Mount Nemrut.
According to the data we have from the first day of the holiday until today, we see that approximately 8 thousand domestic and international visitors have visited our cultural heritage site on Mount Nemrut." he reported.
'WE ARE SEEING AN INCREASE'
Stating that there has been a high volume of visitors to the archaeological sites in the city even after the February 6, 2023, earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Gelse said, "When we compare May 2023 and May 2024, we are seeing an approximately 4-fold increase in the number of domestic and international visitors. This makes us extremely happy."
One of the visitors, Şeyma Yağmur Yatgın, stated that she came to Mount Nemrut for the first time and was very impressed.
Coşkun Saygı also shared his views:
"We are in a place that has no equal in the world; placing magnificent statues on top of such a mountain and erecting such a massive monument is beyond reason. This is something that could not be done even with the technology of today's conditions. This is a place that international tourists are already eager to see when they come to our country. It is not an easy climb, but many people can experience that mystical atmosphere here firsthand."
